About Kids Klub
Where Kids Klub all began
Kids Klub was established 35 years ago at Glenfield Primary School. There was a need for after school care for working parents who did not have anyone to look after their children between 3.00pm and 6.00pm. This is where we came in. We provided afternoon tea, activities and a safe, enjoyable environment for children to have fun.
We were then approached by parents to start a before school programme. As many parents start work at 8.30am, their children often need care to ensure they get to work on time. We opened at 7.30am but this quickly changed to 7.00am due to increased demand. We were also approached by parents of schools close by and soon we were doing drop offs in the morning to Sunnybrae, Manuka, Bayview and Marlborough Schools. We also collect children from Manuka and Bayview Primary Schools in the afternoon and take them to Glenfield Primary School.
The natural progression meant that we opened a holiday programme as working parents could not always get time off work. This runs from 7.00am to 6.00pm at Glenfield Primary School.
Sunnybrae Primary School was aware that we were supplying before school care for their children and when they were looking for an after school programme they approached us. We started our Sunnybrae after school programme in 1996.
The expansion continued through word of mouth and demand and we soon had afterschools at Forrest Hill School, Northcote Primary School, Mairangi Bay Primary School and at Marlborough Primary School. We are no longer at Northcote Primary School, Sunnybrae or Mairangi Bay, but maintain our other afterschools.
Our Glenfield centre also caters for children from neighbouring schools i.e. Manuka, Bayview and Glenfield Intermediate. These children are collected, walked or are dropped off to Glenfield Primary School. Please contact us to discuss options.
We have had many enquiries from people from schools on the North Shore who want care. The main issue being the transportation between their school to our afterschool programmes. Most taxi vans are pre-booked by special-needs children. Having said this some children catch a bus from their school or walk to their after school programme. The issue of children from other schools attending one of our programmes would need to be discussed.
We have also been approached by various schools regarding opening an afterschool programme at their school. This includes Devonport, Albany, Takapuna, Point Chevalier and West Auckland. We have declined these to date as we want to ensure we supply a quality service and feel we could not guarantee this with too many centres and the geographical challenges.
